HCA Announcements



  • Sharon Takahashi was nominated by the American School Counselor Association for the prestigious 2008 School Counselor of the Year award.  Congratulations to Ms. Takahashi, a certified school counselor at West Briar Middle School in Houston ISD.   She was recently named as a national semifinalist by the American School Counselor Association.

    Here is an excerpt from the Inaugural Awards Gala program held in Washington D.C. recently, explaining the award program:

    "The American School Counselor Association's School Counselor of the Year program honors the "best of the best" school counselors who are running a top-notch, comprehensive school counseling program at either the elementary, middle, or high school level.   The program was open to 100,000 members of the school counseling profession.   The candidates were judged on several criteria including: creative school counseling programs, leadership skills and their contribution to student achievement."


  • HCA Scholarship Award  If you are currently enrolled in a Counseling Certification Program.  Have completed 12 or more hours toward Counselor Certification.  Have a 3. 0 or better GPA in the Counseling Certification courses.  Submit a transcript showing graduate credit in counseling courses.  Submit a letter of recommendation from one of your counseling professors. And complete the HCA SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FORM and mail it to the address on the form by March 1, 2009.

  • Parents Under Construction is an award-winning, research-based curriculum that teaches children preschool through high school the parenting skills they will need in the future, as well as communication skills and non-violent conflict resolution skills they can use right now.  Training is 1/2 day for the preschool curriculum and 1 day for the elementary and secondary curricula. You can be trained as an individual on:

        Saturday, January 22nd, 2005 (secondary)
        Saturday, February 5th, 2005 (elementary)
        Saturday, April 16, 2005 (preschool)
